Binghamton Upsets Vermont To Earn First Win Of The Season

It certainly took longer than expected, but after 26 straight losses to start the season, the Binghamton Bearcats finally won a game.

Binghamton picked up a 57-53 home win over Vermont last night, ending the unfortunate streak with only two games left in the regular season. Robert Mansell led the way for Binghamton with 18 points, while Ben Dickinson added 16.

This was the classic underdog story, to say the least.

Vermont entered the game with a 12-2 record in the America East and winners of 13 of their last 14 games. They had already beaten the Bearcats by 20 a little over a month ago, and seemed to be destined to meet Stony Brook in the America East conference tournament to decide who will represent the conference in the NCAA tournament.

But despite their recent success, they couldn’t hold off a team that was hungry for a win.

A team that was hungry to experience the thrill of knocking off one of the best teams in their conference. And hungry to beat the team that started the streak last season in the America East tournament.

Vermont may have been the better team for much of the 2011-2012 season. They weren’t last night though. And you can bet that’s all that matters to the Bearcats.

Here’s a few highlights from Binghamton’s big victory:
