Conference Expansion: Utah State and San Jose State Moving to MWC

facebooktwitterreddit

For those trying to keep up with conference realignment, well, to you I say “good luck.”

With the landscape of college athletics changing by the day, moves are being made at a rapid pace, with schools rushing to find new homes once the domino effect begins.

After learning yesterday that Butler would be moving from the Horizon League to the Atlantic-10, now we have more movers.

ESPN’s Andy Katz (who is essentially the conference expansion guru, at this point) states that according to his sources, both Utah State and San Jose State will be jumping from the crumbling WAC to the Mountain West Conference for the 2013-2014 season.

Just read the above story. It all kind of runs together, doesn’t it?

Basically, here’s what it boils down to: if Utah State and San Jose State do indeed leave the WAC, then the WAC is in severe trouble.

Keep in mind that Texas State, who only joined the WAC a year ago, has also decided to leave the conference and move to the Sun Belt.

Who knows where the conference goes from here. This is conference expansion, and as always, expect the unexpected.
