Top 25 Recruit Devonta Pollard Commits to Alabama

Kemper County High school forward Devonta Pollard has announced he will attend Alabama, marking the final top 25 recruit in the class of 2012 to pledge his college commitment.

A 5-star prospect out of Porterville, Mississippi, Pollard chose the Tide over Missouri, Georgetown, LSU and Texas.

The 6-foot-7 forward is the only class of 2012 signee for Bama head coach Anthony Grant. Grant will likely ask Pollard to contribute immediately in the wake of the departure of forward JaMychal Green. Green, who graduated in May, led the Tide in scoring, field goal percentage, rebounding and blocked shots as a senior.

Alabama may also have to make do without forward Tony Mitchell, the Tide’s second leading scorer last season. The team suspended Mitchell in February for the remainder of the 2011-2012 campaign, and his status for the upcoming season remains unclear.

Pollard, whose versatility allows him to play the 3 or 4 equally well, will likely be used in a dual role for the Tide next season. The Porterville native will team up with Nick Jacobs, the most experienced front court player returning to Alabama.

Tony Mitchell and Travis Releford will be back as well, reuniting one of the most dynamic backcourts in the SEC.
