2013 Big South Conference Tournament: Myrtle Beach Madness

Here we go everybody! Welcome to March and March Madness, where college basketball teams make or break their NCAA Tournament hopes. But before you can even talk about the NCAA Tournament, you have to talk about the conference tournaments. This year especially could be an interesting year in the conference tournaments because there are so many bubble teams that need things to break their way.

To kick things off, conference tournaments begin tomorrow at noon. The first conference tournament that will begin play is the Big South. Now if you don’t know the Big South conference is broken down into two divisions the North and the South. The High Point Panthers won the regular season north division with a 12-4 conference record and a 17-12 overall record.

In the south division, the Charleston Southern Buccaneers won the regular season title with a 12-4 conference record and a 17-11 overall record. These two teams including the Virginia Military Keydets and the Gardner Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs will play the winners of the first round on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

When looking at tomorrow’s first round games this is how it is set up:

Game 1 at 12:00 pm: No. 4 North Division Radford vs. No. 5 South Division Winthrop

Game 2 at 2:00 pm: No. 3 South Division UNC Asheville vs. No. 6 North Division Longwood

Game 3 at 6:00 pm: No. 3 North Division Campbell vs. No. 6 South Division Presbyterian College

Game 4 at 8:00 pm: No. 4 South Division Coastal Carolina vs. No. 5 North Division Liberty

Out of all the first round games, Game three between Campbell and Presbyterian College is going to be interesting. Look past both teams records especially Presbyterian’s 8-23 record. Campbell is missing their leading scorer Darren White who was averaging 21.8 points per game this season due to an injury. I won’t say this is a type of game that has upset alert written all over it but it might be a close one.
