At this point, as bad as his decisions may have been, I am starting to feel really bad for PJ Hairston.According to USA Today, another link has been found between the UNC forward and Haydn Thomas, the man whose rented car Hairston was driving when he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Thomas has denied that he knows Hairston at all and that his rented car only ended up in Hairston’s hands through a mutual friend. However based on the evidence brought up by a previous traffic incident in Hairston’s past, that claim by Thomas seems to be an exaggeration if not an outright lie.
North Carolina’s leading scorer last basketball season, P.J. Hairston, was cited for speeding May 13 while driving a Hertz rental car that was paid for by a woman who shares a Durham address with Haydn Thomas, a convicted felon whose rented sports utility vehicle Hairston was driving when he was arrested last month.
Hairston was cited for speeding while driving a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS with Virginia license plates, a Durham County District Court clerk said. The Camaro was paid for by a woman named Catinia Farrington, whose Durham address matches that of Thomas, according to the Hertz receipt obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
Now, I suppose that this could all be a huge coincidence and that Hairston just happened to have borrowed two rental cars from two different people who happened to live in the same house but only know one of them. I mean, that is technically possible. While it is possible, it is also incredibly unlikely.
We this news, Thomas has to be sweating a little bit because his sketchy past does not make him someone high profile college basketball players should be associated with. In 2006, Thomas was convicted on the felony charge of accessing computers. He has also plead guilty in the past of possessing drug related paraphernalia.
Of course, none of this implicates Thomas in Hairston’s arrest, at least for the time being. As more information develops, we will be sure to keep you up to date.
