Saint Joesph’s University has just received a verbal commitment from class of 2014 high school prospect Shavar Newkirk to play for the university’s basketball program. Newkirk, born and raised in the Bronx, NY, is a 5ft 11in Point Guard, and all the PG fundamentals you can ask for to come with him. His passing ability is outstanding, seemingly able to pass the ball no matter where, no matter the angle and no matter how difficult. Along with his incredible passing ability, he is a sweet-stroking shooter who can hit his jumpshots consistently whether they are spot-ups or off-the-dribble. His ball-handling is very good for the average PG, it allows him to breakdown his man and it keeps him from turning over the ball on drives to the rim.

His season averages for his junior year last year were around 16 PPG, 5 ASP, 2 RPG, and 1 SPG for the Cardinal Hayes Cardinals. Pretty high numbers for someone of his stature, which makes this all the more impressive. He is currently not ranked in the nation, but I have a feeling that will change during the course of his senior year. In the meanwhile,I suggest you get acquainted with Shavar and check out his highlights. They are pretty entertaining to watch:
