It was with sadness that the Butler Bulldogs announced earlier this month that Blue II, their mascot, had passed away. Students and player alike loved the dog who had become a fixture at the Bulldogs’ home games. Blue II was there for both Final Four runs and was looked as a good luck charm of sorts by the team.

To honor the dog’s passing, the football team placed two dog bones on their helmets during their latest game against Dartmouth. It was a small but significant way to remember an important part of Butler’s recent athletics history.

Once the basketball season begins, it is almost a certainty that Butler’s hoops team will also do something to remember Blue II. For all involved, it will be an emotional night.
