South Carolina guard Tyrone Johnson out indefinitely

Losing a player at this point in the season is not good. Losing your second point guard is even worse. I mean, just ask the South Carolina Gamecocks who already lost  Bruce Ellington, a three-year basketball starter, who gave up his final year of basketball eligibility for NFL aspirations (led football team in receptions) and who have just lost their leading scorer, Tyrone Johnson, indefinitely.

Johnson might be a familiar name to those out side of the Gamecocks fanbase. At one point in time Johnson was set to be all kinds of awesome for the Villanova Wildcats  but decided to transfer before his career really took off. Now, however, he was leading South Carolina with 11.9 points a game. He also started in nine of the 16 games he has appeared in.

The point guard fractured his right foot on Wednesday night and will require surgery. There is, obviously, no specific timetable for his return.

This is just another huge blow for the Gamecocks. They are only 7-9 on the season and really relied on Johnson to help get the offense going. Already struggling in SEC play (0-3), don’t look for them to make any gigantic leaps forward during the rest of the season.

Which is really sad because Frank Martin getting mad while relevant is the greatest.

All is not horrible, though. As you just saw, we will always have Martin’s rants on YouTube.
