While not a premier program, the New Mexico Lobos did land a top recruit in the 2016 recruiting class, landing a commitment from four-star forward Mitch Lightfoot. Lightfoot announced his decision via his Twitter account.

"I’m excited to say I’m a Lobo #committed– Mitch Lightfoot"

Lightfoot is ranked by as a four-star recruit by ESPN, but a three-star recruit by Rivals. At 6’7″ and 195 pounds, Lightfoot does have a lean frame but is a fierce competitor on both ends of the floor.

Lightfoot talked to the Albuquerque Journal about his decision to select the Lobos.

"“I love coach Neal and all the players — all great players. We got my grandparents out here for this trip and my parents and showed them around a little. This was more of a family thing on this trip. We do things as a family and this trip convinced everyone so I committed.”"

While Lightfoot is the first 2016 recruit for Craig Neal‘s program, he’ll join his high school teammate when he arrives in New Mexico. The 2015 class features three-star forward Dane Kuiper, AAU teammate of Lightfoot, as well as Jordan Hunter and Anthony Mathis.

Still, this is a big get for the Lobos, who could be soon making the step up as a program if they continue landing big recruits.
