North Carolina lands first commit of 2015 in Luke Maye

Roy Williams and North Carolina added the first member to the 2015 recruiting class on Tuesday with the commitment of Luke Maye, a 6’7″ forward out of North Carolina.

"Williams first began seriously recruiting Maye after getting word that Maye and Hough bested Kennedy Meeks’s team in the 2013 NCHSAA state playoffs – and Williams made the trip to watch him the following week. Maye took a couple of unofficial visits to Chapel Hill, including this past June when he played pickup with this year’s Tar Heels, before making his official visit for “Late Night with Roy” last month."

Maye’s father is a former UNC athlete himself, certain a big factor in the decision of his son Luke.

Maye is a power forward with a big body. At 6’7″ and 225 pounds, he’s known for his toughness and rebounding ability. He can use his size on the defensive end displace players on the boards.

However, he does have some questions about his offensive game. He doesn’t have much range, but he certainly can score.

Still, he lacks athleticism and length, something that could cause him issues at North Carolina against elite schools. However, if WIlliams is recruiting him, he must see something he likes.

Maye is ranked #136 by 247Sports and is a consensus 3-star prospect across all scouting services.
