Previewing Saturday’s Big Day Of Basketball in the SEC

LSU (18-8, 7-6) at Florida (13-13, 6-7) 1 p.m. ET: Florida is out of the conversation for an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament, but the LSU Tigers are still very much alive. Most sports networks have LSU currently in the field of 68, but another loss may change that. The Tigers’ 68-62 loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday night wasn’t what the team needed, but the loss could be used as a motivational tool. Getting a win over the Gators will keep LSU in the thick of things for March.

Jordan Mickey had six points and four rebounds against the Aggies. Jarell Martin added 13 points and six rebounds, but fouled out late in the game. The Tigers’ frontcourt will have to get off to a quick start on the road against a down-and-out Florida team to get the win.

Texas A&M (18-7, 9-4) at South Carolina (13-12, 4-9) 12 p.m. ET: Texas A&M’s win over LSU on Tuesday night proved that the Aggies are serious about getting into the NCAA tournament. But they can’t allow the win over the Tigers to overshadow their next opponent. South Carolina is coming off one of its biggest road wins of the season, defeating NCAA tournament team Georgia, 64-58. Can the Gamecocks be the conference’s spoiler team? Hopefully Texas A&M’s Danuel House and Jalen Jones will have something to say about it.

18 Arkansas (21-5, 10-3) at Mississippi State (12-14, 5-8) 4 p.m. ET: Arkansas has won its last five games and will look to make it six in a row against Mississippi State, which has went 2-3 in its last five. Coach Mike Anderson has his Razorbacks playing stifling defense at the right time of the season. Against Missouri, Arkansas forced 19 turnovers. The Razorbacks will look to do the same against a Bulldogs team they throttled 61-41 in their first meeting two weeks ago.

Auburn (12-14, 4-9) at 1 Kentucky (26-0, 13-0) 7 p.m. ET: Have the Wildcats played their best basketball of the season or is the best yet to come? That’s the question many fans are asking. So far, no team on their schedule has been able to beat them. Auburn will get a chance to dethrone Kentucky inside Rupp Arena. The Tigers are coming off a 79-68 loss to Alabama at home. KT Harrell, Antoine Mason, and Cinmeon Bowers will have to play almost a perfect game, but it still may not be enough to overcome the Wildcats’ superior defense that’s only allowing 51.7 points per game.

Tennessee (14-11, 6-7) at Mississippi (18-8, 9-4) 7:30 p.m. ET: After losing to Arkansas by one point, Ole Miss got a bounce back win over Mississippi State 71-65 to keep its tournament hopes alive. The Rebels are at home this weekend against the Vols, who are coming off a 66-48 home loss to Kentucky. If Ole Miss looks to continue its winning ways, Stefan Moody and Jarvis Summers will have to catch fire on offense.

Georgia (16-9, 7-6) at Alabama (16-10, 6-7) 8 p.m. ET: The Bulldogs are one loss away from becoming a bubble team and can’t afford another bad loss. Georgia and the Crimson Tide are separated by one game in the SEC standings. Alabama is comfortable at home in conference play with a 3-3 record. On the flip side of things, the Bulldogs are 3-3 in road conference games. This could be a shootout from beginning to end.
