NCAA Basketball: Wooden Legacy Tournament has Great Potential Matchups

facebooktwitterreddit

Anaheim, Ca will be holding the Wooden Legacy Tournament which will pit eight teams against each other to take the crown.

More from NCAA Basketball News

The tournament appears to be set up for a potential Arizona Wildcats vs Michigan State Spartans matchup for the championship, but both teams are going to have to navigate through their respective brackets in order to make that happen.

Michigan St. will open up the tournament against Jim Christian’s Boston College Eagles.

Boston College will be going into this season without Olivier Hanlan who was drafted into the NBA by the Utah Jazz in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Boston College is going to have to find offense elsewhere now losing close to 20 ppg worth of output with Hanlan gone.

Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine should be able to navigate the Spartans passed this matchup with a victory in order to take on the winner of the other game in their bracket between Boise St. and UC Irvine.

Boise State is seen as a team that might be a sleeper to win the Mountain West Conference while Russell Turner’s UC Irvine Anteaters  attempts to build off of their 2015 NCAA Tournament berth where they barely lost to the Louisville Cardinals 57-55.

Arizona’s side of the bracket will see the Wildcats open up against the Santa Clara Broncos out of the West Coast Conference.

  • If and when Arizona defeats Santa Clara, Sean Miller‘s Wildcats will await the winner of the Providence Friars/ Evansville Purple Aces matchup.

Providence is led by Preseason All-American guard Kris Dunn who averaged 15.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists for the Friars last season.

It is going to be interesting to see Arizona take the court with Sean Miller pretty much fielding a new team on the floor. Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson were both drafted in the 2015 NBA Draft and T.J. McConnell was playing with the 76ers in the Summer League.

However this could be the beginning of 6-foot-5 , five-star guard recruit Justin Simon‘s era in the desert.

The Wooden Legacy Tournament is set for November 26th  with the title game to be played on the 29th.
