Who is the best Big 12 basketball team in 2016? There are a lot of quality teams to choose from.

For most, everyone knows there’s a lot of talk around the ACC, as one of the best conferences in college basketball. However, there is one conference that is looking to change that notion.

The Big 12 has been one of the best conferences this season, and they aren’t looking back. It’s really a toss up as to who is the best team in this conference. Between West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Baylor there’s really no telling as to who is going to take this conference.

Baylor currently is in the lead with one loss in conference play, but this could go either way. WVU lost a close game to Oklahoma on a last second tip in for a win by 2. This caused WVU to end a eight game winning streak.

One thing to watch out for with Baylor, is they haven’t fared well on the road. The worst was a 28-point loss to Kansas, this being the third of three road games for the bears. It looks like they are starting to get the hang of life on the road.

More from Baylor Bears

After falling behind by 12 to Oklahoma State in the first half, they rallied back and were able to win the game 69-65 on Wednesday night at Oklahoma. This was against a sparse crowd at Gallagher-Iba Arena, due to the 15th anniversary of the plane crash that killed 10 members of the OSU family.

This wasn’t going to affect the Baylor Bears in the slightest. According to BaylorBears.com, senior forward Rico Gathers had this to say, “We just knew we had to come out strong. And that was the first thing we did, just getting the ball inside. I think I scored three buckets back-to-back, and we just went to work from there.”

Kansas is up there with the 2 loss teams in the conference, and is one of three teams in that conference that is undefeated at home. WVU is close with one loss at home.

After a two-game losing streak, WVU bounced back with a big win over Texas Tech.  They are going to look to keep the press up and really make it hard for the rest of conference play.

Once back on the winning side of things, WVU looked to keep that train moving in the right direction as they took on Kansas State for the second time this month. In the first meeting the game went into double overtime, this time WVU wasn’t playing around. They were able to take down the Wild Cats 70-55 in regulation, no OT needed.

With five players on WVU’s roster shooting over 50% and the rest of the roster not too far behind them, the Defense is the part of their game they are going to need to keep up. In their three losses this season their opponent was able to exploit their press coverage, which dubbed them the nickname “press” Virginia.

Baylor seems to be the hot team this week in the conference with a 5 game win streak, and WVU looking to start a new streak going in the right direction.
