The Virginia Tech Hokies are close to making it into the Big Dance, but a win over the Louisville Cardinals would solidify their chances.

TV Schedule: Saturday, Feb. 18, 1:00 p.m. ET, ACC Network

Arena: KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, KY

This is what college basketball is all about. A scrappy, NCAA Tournament hopeful team vs. a conference juggernaut with dreams of a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed.

On paper, the Virginia Tech Hokies look like they should make the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but, with just five games remaining, they could easily end up in the NIT. Huge wins over the Virginia Cavaliers and Duke Blue Devils bode well for their chances; however, a win against their next opponents, the Louisville Cardinals, would all but make them a lock.

Louisville, on the other hand, have their sights set on the ACC regular season title and a possible No. 1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. With a game remaining against North Carolina and a final Duke vs. UNC showdown remaining on the ACC schedule, the Cardinals are guaranteed a share of the ACC regular season title if they win out.

Yet to play this season, Virginia Tech and Louisville should be an exciting game that feels like an NCAA Tournament match-up. Both teams would love a win here, and, while it is not a must-win for either side, a win would take their respective seasons to the next level.

I do believe that Louisville cruises to a win in this one, pulling away early in the second half. The Cardinals are far superior on paper and get this game at home which should be enough for the win. However, don’t be surprised if Virginia Tech steals a win against yet another top ACC team and shakes up the ACC.

Prediction: Louisville 70, Virginia Tech 62
