Tevin Mack’s transfer is a big move for the Alabama Crimson Tide, as he could make an impact starting in the 2018-19 season.

Former Texas guard Tevin Mack made it official Wednesday night with the announcement that he will join Alabama.

ESPN’s college basketball recruiting insider Jeff Borzello first reported it on Twitter. Mack, however, would later confirm it on Twitter.

Alabama Head Coach Avery Johnson didn’t comment on his latest transfer commit. He did hear about the news, however. Based on this tweet, he’s likely pleased with the new addition to the program.

Mack was a sophomore for the Longhorns this season. He’ll have to sit out for 2017-18 and won’t be eligible until ’18-19.

Mack had been suspended multiple times during his sophomore season for rules violations back in January. This led to Mack leaving the program back in February.

It’s a big addition for the Crimson Tide. While it’s not an immediate addition, Mack can make a difference for Alabama down the road.

At Texas, Mack played two seasons. His sophomore season, however, was much shorter than his freshman campaign.

In 15 games for the Longhorns, Mack averaged 14.8 points per game this season with 4.9 rebounds per game.

Mack has averaged double-digit points in scoring in his first two seasons.

When the guard is ready to go in 2018, Mack will be a solid scoring threat that Alabama can use. He’ll certainly come in handy during those SEC games against teams like Kentucky and Florida.

Alabama has had a busy week thus far. The school also announced the addition of assistant Yasir Rosemond to the coaching staff Tuesday.

Rosemond comes to the program after spending his two previous seasons at Georgia. He’s also had assistant coaching stints at Samford and Oregon.

Alabama finished the 2016-17 season with a 19-15 record overall and 10-8 in the SEC. The Crimson Tide lost in the first round of the NIT to Richmond.
