Louisville Basketball: Deng Adel returning to school, Cardinals now top 10
By Taylor Sturm
Players are officially deciding whether or not they are going into the 2017 NBA Draft, and the Louisville Cardinals’ Deng Adel just decided to stay in school.
Things could not get much better for the Louisville Cardinals, as Deng Adel announced he would return to school for the 2017-18 season.
Adel, a 6’7, 200-pound forward out of Australia, averaged 12.1 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game over 30 minutes per game last season. His performance helped lead the Cardinals to a No. 2 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Despite their high seed, the Cardinals failed to advance to the Sweet 16, falling to the streaking Michigan Wolverines in the Round of 32.
His decision to return clearly makes this Louisville team one of the better teams in the country and definitely worth of a place in the preseason top 10.
If Donovan Mitchell had returned to school, I firmly believe that Louisville would have either been the No. 1 or No. 2 team heading into the 2017-18 season with just the Arizona Wildcats competing for that honor. Despite Mitchell’s absence, Adel’s return will give Louisville a legitimate shot at winning it all next season.
