Connecticut and Villanova have announced that they will play each other in the 2017-18 season with the potential to face off several more times in years to come.

The Connecticut Huskies and Villanova Wildcats have been on two opposite ends of the college basketball spectrum over the last few seasons, but that could change very soon.

The two will face off in Hartford, Connecticut, as part of a multi-year series that should give us an exciting Big East/American Athletic Conference matchup for years to come. The first game will be on January 20, 2018.

Last season, Villanova was one of the best teams in college basketball all season long, going 32-4 and earning a No. 1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. They lost in the Round of 32 to the Wisconsin Badgers, but a Big East regular season title win and a Big East Tournament win is definitely not to be considered a failure.

UConn, on the other hand, had one of their worst seasons in recent memories, going 16-17 and missing out on postseason play. The program is still one of the better ones in college basketball, but the current freefall has to have longtime fans worried about the future of this team.

Villanova should remain one of the top programs in college basketball for the foreseeable future, while UConn should be on the rise next season and, hopefully, ascend to their former glory within a few years.
