Michigan basketball has plenty of talent coming in this offseason. How will these 2018 commits push the program to new heights?

Michigan basketball head coach John Beilein is one of the best in the business. Regardless of preseason projections, the March mastermind seems to always make a deep run in the postseason. This past season was certainly no exception with the Wolverines winning the Big Ten Tournament and then reaching the national championship game before being taken down by Villanova. Regardless, though, this was an extremely successful season and there should be plenty of hype surrounding the team heading into this coming season.

Even though Moritz Wagner, Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, and Duncan Robinson are now gone, the program still looks to be in really good shape. Before I get too far ahead of myself here, I will say that these losses are a big deal. All three players, Wagner especially, were valuable parts of the rotation this past season and will not be easily replaced. Nonetheless, the program does have a fair number of players returning.

Most notably, Charles Matthews is an absolute stud. One of the best two-way players in the nation, Matthews can be a 15+ points per game scorer as the primary offensive option while also being a lockdown defender. In addition, Jon Teske, Jordan Poole, Zavier Simpson, Isaiah Livers, and more all return for the Wolverines with another year of experience under their belts.

Then, last but not least, head coach John Beilein is bringing in a talented recruiting class. Ranked at No. 12 in the country by 247Sports, this group of five commits could make an immediate impact on the program. Even if they do not see minutes right away, though, the future is certainly bright with these players. Let’s dive in and take a look at each of Michigan’s incoming freshmen.
