Marquette basketball projects as one of the best teams in the Big East this season. Why is this the case and how far might the team go?

The Steve Wojciechowski era of Marquette basketball has been…shaky to this point. Even though his teams have been electric on the offensive end, defensive deficiencies have seemingly always limited the team’s ceiling. Yet, as the 2018-19 season creeps closer, it is obvious that this is the best roster that he has put together for the program. Quite simply, this idea has Marquette fans around the nation giddy about the team’s potential.

Considering the Big East is expected to experience a down season this year, this could be the season that the Golden Eagles swoop in and compete for the conference title. Although it may seem cliche, it seems as though everything is lining up perfectly for an outstanding season. And, as some of you may know, this is not easy for me to say about Marquette.

In addition to returning a ton of talent from last season, Marquette is also bringing in a few newcomers. Most notably, transfers Ed Morrow and Joseph Chartouny look poised to play immediate roles within the rotation. Both of these players will bring experience to the young roster and also hopefully help the defense improve. Additionally, incoming freshmen Joey Hauser (No. 52 – 2018 class) and Brendan Bailey (No. 92 – 2016 class, just finished a Mormon mission trip) should see immediate minutes.

With all of this said, it is easy to get excited about Marquette basketball heading into this season. So, putting (almost) all negatives aside, here are three of the biggest reasons why 2018-19 could be a special year for the program.
