Marquette basketball has high expectations heading into this season. How is the roster configured and how might the team perform on the court?

Heading into this season, expectations are incredibly high for Marquette basketball. Despite only making the NCAA Tournament one time in head coach Steve Wojciechowski’s tenure to this point (four seasons), reaching the Big Dance is not just a goal but the expectation for the team this time around. The Golden Eagles return a ton of offensive firepower from this past season and are expected to be much better on the defensive end as well.

Quite simply, it is easy to see why many are projecting Marquette to be one of the top teams in the Big East as a preseason top-25 team in the country. In addition to offensive stars Markus Howard and Sam Hauser, the program is also bringing in some excellent transfers to go with the returns of several quality rotation players. The offense is certainly going to be there for Marquette once again this season and that is enticing even if their defense might still not be tremendous.

There are, of course, plenty of question marks with regards to the roster and the coaching staff (mostly about defense) but the same can be said about almost every fringe top-25 team. In reality, it is impossible to judge just how good a team will be without seeing them touch the floor. So, without further ado, let’s jump into previewing the upcoming campaign for the Golden Eagles.

This preview will examine a potential starting lineup, the key reserves, and the non-conference slate before concluding with an overview of the team and some projections.
