After a 3-0 start in front of the Hinkle faithful, Butler basketball begins play at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament with a matchup against Dayton.

It is no secret that Big East basketball is not off to a great start this season. Teams around the conference have struggled in the early going and it has reflected poorly on the league as a whole so far. Yet…Butler basketball remains as one of the three undefeated teams left in the conference (DePaul and St. John’s are the others). And while the Dawgs have not faced the toughest competition to this point, they have looked fairly solid in the early going.

Even without Tyler Wideman and Kelan Martin, Butler looks as strong as ever behind the star power of Kamar Baldwin. But this early-season success has been about far more than just Baldwin (even if he is leading the team in points, rebounds, assists, and steals). Paul Jorgensen, a fifth-year senior, has stepped up as a scorer and the big man platoon of Joey Brunk and Nate Fowler is shooting a combined 22-for-27 from the field.

Additionally, the Dawgs have held their opponents to under 70 points per game and just 43.3% shooting from the field so far. However, the competition is about to step up another notch. After winning each of their first three games in front of the Hinkle Fieldhouse crowd, Butler now heads to the Bahamas to compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.

In the opening game of the tournament for Butler, which will be played at 7:00 pm ET on Nov. 21, the team will take on Dayton, a former foe in the Atlantic 10. Entering this game, the Flyers hold a 3-0 record but are yet to be tested against any major conference opposition.

Here are my three keys to success for Butler in this opening game of the B4A against Dayton.
