Baylor Basketball will host the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday with first place in the Big 12 on the line. Here are three keys for the Bears to win.

Who would’ve thought that over a month into the Big 12 Conference play season, Baylor Basketball would be in prime position to take over first place?

Definitely not me.

In my first few editions of the Big 12 Power Rankings, I had Baylor either 9th or 10th. Now, in the middle of February, the Bears have emerged as one of the top teams in the league.

Despite their five-game winning streak being snapped on Wednesday after a loss to Texas, the Bears are just one game out of first place in the Big 12.

The team that currently occupies first place is the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Wildcats limped into conference play after a shaky non-conference season and a major injury to Dean Wade. However, after several weeks, the Wildcats and Wade are back, and are miraculously in first place in the Big 12.

Saturday’s game is one of the biggest in the Big 12 this season. If Baylor wins, they will be tied with Kansas State atop the Big 12. If the Wildcats win, they will remain in a tie for first place with Iowa State, pending the outcome of the Cyclones’ game.

Regardless of the outcome, Saturday’s game will finally pit two seemingly surprise contenders in the Big 12 against each-other. Each team has a group of impressive wins to their name, and will face off for the first time on Saturday.

Maybe Kansas and/or Texas Tech will re-emerge as favorites in a couple weeks time. However, for Saturday, the temporary leader in the Big 12 will be crowned, whether it be the Baylor Bears or the Kansas State Wildcats.

Who would’ve thought that two teams, with losses to Texas Southern and Tulsa, would be in this position halfway through conference play? Anyways, here are three keys for the Baylor Bears to take over first place in the Big 12.
