California Bears center Connor Vanover is officially scheduled to visit SEC Basketball schools Arkansas and Vanderbilt in the coming weeks, and more could be announced soon.

Connor Vanover is an Arkansas native, so it’s no surprise that he will be coming back home to visit with new Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman and check out what the program has to offer. Standing at 7-3, Vanover is very tall, but he is also very versatile. He made 35.5 percent of his threes from last season and shot 50 percent from the field in his last five games and 41 percent from three. Vanover isn’t just a good shooter; he can also dominate the paint and the glass, averaging 2.4 blocks and 12.8 rebounds in his final five games at Cal.

Vanover started 15 games with the Bears last season where he averaged 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks. Those stats aren’t as sexy as his last five games, but I can promise you whoever gets this guy will have a dominant player down low next season. He is scheduled to visit Vanderbilt early next week, and Arkansas on May 9-10.

Vanover was offered by the former Arkansas staff, and the same from Vanderbilt but didn’t commit to either program. He initially committed to Memphis before de-committing months later and heading west for Cal after Memphis fired head coach Tubby Smith. Vanover was the No.3 player in the state of Arkansas going into his senior year where he had already reached 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, and 300 assists.

He received ten offers in his initial recruiting process, four coming from SEC Basketball schools. Vanover is currently only scheduled to visit Arkansas and Vanderbilt, but if some of the schools that previously offered him show interest again he could look at those schools as well.

Fun fact: All four SEC schools that offered Vanover now have new head coaches. Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt have all seen coaching changes over the past two years, all but one changed coaches this offseason. I don’t know how that affects how Vanover views each program but if they are interested he will look at them as well unless he’s blown away by Vandy or Arkansas.
