Villanova basketball is always one of the top teams in the nation. What will it take for the Wildcats to post a successful season and compete for the title?

Considering Villanova basketball’s extreme level of success in recent years, it is nearly impossible to set realistic expectations for the program. Head coach Jay Wright has turned the Wildcats into an absolute juggernaut in the Big East as they seem to be a legitimate national title threat every single year. With the 2019-20 season in mind, Villanova lost two key seniors in Phil Booth and Eric Paschall but they were able to secure the No. 5 overall recruiting class in the nation for reinforcements.

To put it simply, Villanova will never rebuild again. As long as Coach Wright is at the helm, this program will just continue to reload thanks to strong recruiting and player development. Villanova has reached the NCAA Tournament in 14 of the last 15 seasons and also boasts two national titles in the last four years. It is clear that the program is only continuing to reach new heights.

Even though the 2019-20 season is still several months away, let’s take a dive deeper into Villanova’s roster and analyze five potential keys to success for the team. The Wildcats are widely expected to land in the preseason top-15 this season and therefore these keys will hit on what it will take for the team to reach that high bar and compete for the national title. (All statistics in this article were found via Sports-Reference, T-Rank, and KenPom.)
