Talented scoring guard Jose Perez has 10 possible options as to his next NCAA Basketball destination. Which of them are the best potential fits?

Few NCAA Basketball freshman had as a good a campaign as Jose Perez did with Gardner-Webb in 2018-19. The 6’5 guard averaged 15.1 ppg, along with a team-leading 5.7 rpg and 3.0 apg that season and along with senior forward David Efianayi, led the Bulldogs to a Big South Tournament title and a trip to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. They lost to eventual national champ Virginia but Perez showed himself well, scoring a team-high 19 points.

Things didn’t go as great for Perez and Gardner-Webb this past season. As a sophomore, the guard put up similar stat lines (15.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 4.2 apg) compared to his freshman campaign. However, Perez’s efficiency took a massive dip, shooting just 34% from the field overall and 25% from three-point range. He had a 35-point effort against Winthrop and was a point shy of a triple-double against UT-Marin (had one as a freshman versus Savannah State) but struggled to be the team’s No. 1 offensive option overall.

Perez didn’t finish the season with the Bulldogs, leaving the team for “personal reasons”. That ended up being the last time he played for them, entering the transfer portal this offseason and becoming a sought-after talent for dozens of teams. Even with the efficiency slide, the guard still managed to lead the team in all three major categories and has the size and capabilities to play multiple positions at a high-major level.

That’s where he may end up, with all but two of his 10 finalists coming from the top NCAA Basketball conferences. The other two come from the WCC and Mountain West. It will be a jump from the Big South but Perez is capable of being a contributor at any spot.

But which one will it be? Likely having to sit out next year per current NCAA rules barring a waiver, the rosters will be different for each team. It’ll be tough finding a great fit but here’s a look at the current state of each program and where Perez can ultimately fit in.
