Major NCAA Basketball news with the announcement that Andrew Nembhard is leaving the Florida Gators. Which programs are the best new fits for the guard?

One of the biggest pending NCAA Basketball decisions left this offseason was what would happen with the backcourt of the Florida Gators. Guards Tre Mann and Andrew Nembhard have been in the NBA Draft process and it could’ve been going either way. We now know what Nembhard is doing… but the future doesn’t involve the Gators anymore.

That’s because the two-year starter has elected to enter the transfer portal once he withdrew from the draft process. On the surface, it doesn’t make sense that the former five-star prospect would leave Florida, starting right out the game and being one of the best playmakers in the SEC. Nembhard averaged 5.4 apg as a freshman and saw his numbers increase this past season to 11.2 ppg and 5.6 apg in 33 mpg. The passing numbers were good for second overall in the league.

One potential issue concerning Nembhard and why he left Florida may have been the offensive system under head coach Mike White. In the past few seasons, the Gators have played with one of the slower paces in all of NCAA Basketball, which was weird considering the high-level athletes on the roster. The team itself admittedly underachieved overall compared to preseason expectations and there must have been a belief that the player himself can’t grow much more, leading to a departure.

Now a free agent, expect every single power conference program to have a major interest in landing Nembhard. Barring an unlikely waiver, he’ll have to sit out the next season but will be ready for 2021-22. At least, that’s how this article will be projecting when discussing potential options. He played for Montverde Academy in Florida but since he’s originally from Canada, geography won’t be a focal point Nembhard’s decisions.

There will be plenty of programs in the running to land Nembhard but only a select few will have a realistic chance. Here are 10 programs I believe you should keep an eye on in the coming days.
