Who are the most accomplished head coaches in AAC Basketball this century?

Among the conferences in college basketball, examining AAC Basketball will be quite a unique experience. It’s the only current D1 athletics conference that was founded since the turn of the century. The league came together in 2013 following the dissolution of the old Big East. The conference principally exists of those teams and a few programs from Conference USA. Whether you consider this league a power conference or not, there has still been some intriguing basketball in their first seven years.

There are some pretty great programs entrenched in the AAC and they didn’t become this way without the leadership of some fantastic coaches. Even in such a short period of time, the conference has seen a group of legendary winners already pass through. There are only so many coaches to consider when picking from such a short period of time, but each name on the list does still has a solid set of accomplishments with these programs. You can debate if they are a major conference, but they’ve made a major impact on college hoops.

We’ll be looking closely at the ten greatest head coaches of the AAC since 2000. The top names really stand out, but it was a bit of a challenge selecting and ranking the other head coaches. We considered the impact they’ve made on their programs and the conference during this brief period, while also considering winning and postseason success as well. There’s already been a national champion in the conference, but that doesn’t guarantee the highest spot on the list.

Without further ado, let’s get right into the list, examining these AAC coaches and their impact since the turn of the century.
