Four-star NCAA Basketball center prospect John Butler has six contenders to choose from. Which of them offer the best situation for the big man?

The center position is very well represented in the 2021 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Of the top-60 overall (according to 247sportsComposite), there are 12 centers, led by No. 2 overall prospect Chet Holmgren. But there are some lesser-known recruits who have a high potential of their own, including John Butler.

Originally from Greenville, South Carolina, Butler is a unique prospect in that he’s listed as 7’1 tall but weighs less than 200 pounds. Although very skinny, he’s an athletic freak that can get up and down the court and has a motor of a guard. He also has a developing all-around game and can block plenty of shots.

Last season as a junior at Christ Church Episcopal High School, Butler averaged nearly 18 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and four blocks a night. He’s considered one of the top players in the state of South Carolina and with his body yet to grow and bulk into his real size and potential, the center has a chance to be a real steal, even as a top-60 prospect.

The recruitment for Butler is coming to a close this week, with an announcement set on July 29. One of the six teams shown above is going to land a quality prospect in their respective 2021 recruiting class. And with some of those programs not usually in the running for top-60 players, this decision by Butler could wind up being very consequential.

Here’s a look at the center’s potential fit with each of the six finalists.
