Arguably the two best programs with arguably the two best coaches in the nation, and they’re located 70 miles from one another within the same state.
In terms of national prominence, there may not be another rivalry that has as much as this one does. With these sides winning two of the last three titles, this rivalry is one of the biggest games on each team’s schedule, regardless if they aren’t conference foes.
What has really kicked this match-up into overdrive has been the fact that two of their last four meetings have come in the NCAA Tournament, with a 2012 meeting in the Final Four and a meeting last season in the Sweet Sixteen. With the Wildcats winning both contests, bragging rights certainly reside in Lexington for the time being.
However, with Rick Pitino roaming the sidelines, there is always the chance that the Cardinals can pull off a victory, and with Kentucky likely being the preseason #1, you can expect this match to be the most highly anticipated game of the year.
