College Basketball: 8 Players Poised For Breakout Seasons
Rysheed Jordan (Point Guard), Sophomore – St. John’s
It was hard not to crack a smile when the Johnnies’ D’Angelo Harrison proclaimed the Red Storm backcourt as the best in the country.
However, before you assume that D-Lo’s water bottle was spiked with vodka, take a long look at his running mate Jordan. As an athletic slashing point guard, Jordan can finish above the rim but also create opportunities for Harrison, who is one of the Big East’s best returning scorers.
A leap for Jordan is clearly expected, considering many sources around the program don’t expect him to be back for his junior season (a reality that has made five-star New Jersey prospect Isaiah Briscoe a top priority for Steve Lavin). St. John’s has started a recent trend of catapulting individuals to success while the team has been mired by mediocrity.
Moe Harkless and Jakarr Sampson have both transitioned to the NBA based on their stellar play, but neither player brought the team back to the NCAA’s. Jordan will try to break that trend as he attempts to lead a team that relies on the talents of four senior perimeter players and a one-man frontcourt that is anchored by nation’s best shot-blocker, Chris Obekpa.
