Expectations for the Season

Normally, this is where the prediction of an inevitable WCC Championship would be made and everyone would continue on with their day. This season, however, Gonzaga is not the clear cut favorite they usually are. With Saint Mary’s returning four of their five starters and adding graduate transfer Cullen Neal, the Gaels appear to be the favorite in the WCC.

While Saint Mary’s is probably the favorite to sit at the top of the WCC, that does not mean Gonzaga can’t win the conference again. There is a very strong chance that the two schools could split their regular season series, which would lead to a likely tie for first. Beyond that, Mark Few always has his teams ready for the WCC Tournament in Vegas.

Despite not being clear WCC favorites, the Gonzaga Bulldogs still have a team that looks to be one of the best in the country. The players they return have all had solid careers, and will now be expected to lead the young promising freshmen and sophomores that make up most of the roster.

Gonzaga will be on most Top 25 lists, and for good reason. Considering the talent they have, the Zags should be able to compile a worthy NCAA Tournament resume, compete at the top of the WCC, and will be a team that is taken seriously in March.
