Big East Basketball: Top 50 players from the legendary 2010-11 season
35. SR Chris Wright – Height: 6’1 Weight: 209 – Georgetown
2010-11 stats: 12.9 ppg 2.9 rpg 5.3 apg – FG%: 41 3P%: 33 FT%: 78
Season-high points: 26 vs. South Florida – Best Big East game: 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists vs. Marquette
Wright was one of the better passers in the league, finishing in the top three. But he also showed signs in scoring, putting up five games of at least 20 points. The senior struggled at times against better competition or would’ve finished even higher on the list.
34. SR Jeff Robinson – Height: 6’5 Weight: 230 – Seton Hall
2010-11 stats: 12.1 ppg 6.4 rpg – FG%: 46 3P%: 33 FT%: 75
Season-high points: 21 vs. Georgetown – Best Big East game: 17 points and 14 rebounds vs. Syracuse
When the star player for the Pirates was out during the non-conference, it was Robinson who stepped up offensively to keep the team in the game. When everyone returned, he took a step back, but always was a solid contributor.
33. SO Brandon Triche – Height: 6’4 Weight: 210 – Syracuse
2010-11 stats: 11.1 ppg 2.7 rpg 2.9 apg – FG%: 42 3P%: 33 FT%: 84
Season-high points: 22 vs. St. John’s – Best Big East game: 22 points, six rebounds, and five assists vs. St. John’s
In his second year of a four-season reign, Triche was more of a role player for the Orange. The talent was always there for him, as the sophomore had a few moments of brilliance when he had the ball in his hands. Most of his best games were during the later parts of the year.
32. FR Cleveland Melvin – Height: 6’8 Weight: 208 – DePaul
2010-11 stats: 14.3 ppg 5.0 rpg 1.0 spg 1.5 bpg – FG%: 52 3P%: N/A FT%: 67
Season-high points: 29 vs. Georgetown – Best Big East game: 25 points and 12 rebounds vs. UConn
The other freshmen of the young Blue Demon duo, Melvin had arguably the worst year of his four seasons. He knew where he made his money, finishing second in the league in field goal percentage. Melvin also was top five in usage rate, meaning that that ball almost always was in his hands per possession.
31. JR Kyle Kuric – Height: 6’4 Weight: 195 -Louisville
2010-11 stats: 10.8 ppg 3.9 rpg 1.2 apg – FG%: 51 3P%: 45 FT%: 76
Season-high points: 28 vs. Notre Dame – Best Big East game: 25 points and nine rebounds vs. Providence
There were very few players in the Big East who could beat out Kuric in a shooting contest, as the junior made 70 threes in a limited role. Considering who else was on the perimeter, 70 was a lot. He stepped up in the final portion of the season, making multiple deep shots in the final nine games.
