Big 12 Basketball: Midseason recap, awards, and observations
Second-team All-Big 12
SR Keenan Evans – Guard, Texas Tech
2017-18 stats: 17.1 ppg 3.0 rpg 3.2 apg
The heart and soul of the Red Raider’s team, the senior guard’s offense counts for a big percentage of the overall scoring. And for the vast majority of the time, he’s delivered. If there wasn’t so much great play at his position, Evans would be getting more exposure.
JR Nick Weiler-Babb – Guard, Iowa State
2017-18 stats: 12.2 ppg 7.2 rpg 7.2 apg
His place here could be controversial, but a couple of bounces of the ball could have given the junior a number of triple-doubles. He’s the only player in the country to average seven points, rebounds, and assists a game. Doing that in this conference deserves some recognition.
SR Jeffrey Carroll – Forward, Oklahoma State
2017-18 stats: 16.2 ppg 6.2 rpg 1.2 apg
If he has a good game, the Cowboys have a shot at beating any team in the conference. An off game and it could get ugly.
SR Vladimir Brodziansky – Forward, TCU
2017-18 stats: 15.4 ppg 4.9 rpg 1.2 apg
The leading scorer for the Horned Frogs has gotten better and better playing under Jamie Dixon and has been as consistent as possible for this team. More wins are coming and the senior will be a big part of it.
FR Mohamed Bamba – Center, Texas
2017-18 stats: 12.4 ppg 10.7 rpg 0.4 apg
The top rebounder in the league, Bamba has been a big presence for Shaka Smart’s defense. His offense is still a work in progress, but his best is yet to come.
