NCAA Basketball: Portsmouth Invitational brimming with talent
Which team will win the PIT?
A few teams stand out as possible contenders, but Sales Systems, LTD looks like the favorites. They have a well-balanced roster and have some of the best players in the field. Here are the rosters for Sales Systems and every other team.
Jock Landale is the biggest name and his merits were discussed in the previous slide. He is joined in the frontcourt by Isaiah Wilkins who is one of the best defenders in all of college basketball. Wilkins was a key cog to Virginia’s amazing season and will get to prove his potential as a defensive minded role player.
Western Kentucky standout Justin Johnson rounds out the frontcourt. Johnson is an excellent player who flew under the radar in Conference USA. He is a bit undersized, but has a great motor and can score from all over the court.
PG play also looks like a major strength. Jordan McLaughlin had an excellent career at USC and is among the nation’s leaders in assists. Sharp shooting guard Tyler Nelson and explosive scorer Jaylen Barford will also see some time as lead ball handlers.
Nelson averaged 22 ppg for Fairfield and hit 104 three pointers. Barford averaged just under 18 ppg and displayed terrific long-range shooting as well. Both players are better as off guards, but they will have the opportunity to show some versatility to scouts.
Lastly, Kelan Martin and Jeffrey Carroll add even more scoring to this team. Martin is a combo forward who can handle the ball and create offense. Carroll regressed as a senior, but is a proto-typical 3 and D player.
All eight of these players fit together really well and could make a huge impact at the PIT.
The PIT is always an important event to track. Multiple players from this year’s crop will play in the NBA and if last year is any indication, watch out for the 3-and-D wings.
