NCAA Basketball: 5 teams who will benefit from transfers who sat out in 2017-18

Iowa State Cyclones – Marial Shayock and Michael Jacobson
The Cyclones had a brutal season last year, as they were a young team. Coach Steve Prohm has some key transfers as well as one of the more explosive and exciting players to watch in the league. Iowa State will be back to competing for second place in the Big 12. When Iowa State is good they are the one team in this league who can beat Kansas. However, the Big 12 has more depth this year and it is a deep league. It may be harder for Iowa State to get back to the top.
Shayock was a part-time starter at Virginia the year before he transferred. Any time a team can get a player from a program the caliber of Virginia it’s a win. Shayock is coming from a program that prides themselves on defense like the Cavaliers do. He should step right in and help shore up the defense for Iowa State. Shayock averages around 9 points a game. So while he is not a great scorer he is a serviceable player who is going to play his behind off on the defensive end of the floor. He will be a coach’s dream with his defensive ability.
Jacobson is a transfer from Nebraska, and an Iowa native. Jacobson is post player who has a nice array of moves in the post and can be a very streaky scorer. He’s also a good passer for a big man, and a decent rebounder. One aspect of the game that Cyclone fans are going to hope Jacobson improved upon is his defense.

While at Nebraska he often was exposed in his matchups and had a hard time staying on the floor at times due to his penchant for fouling. If Jacobson can shore that up, he will be a productive player for the Cyclones.
