NCAA Basketball: Where Will Grad Transfer Joe Cremo end up?
1. Texas Longhorns
Pros
Considering that Cremo plans on visiting the Longhorns this weekend, that’s already a telling sign of how serious an option this is. And unlike Creighton who he already visited, the roster situation with Texas is much more settled.
Texas currently has the 11th best-recruiting class, but none of them coming in are guards. And with a couple of players leaving along with the uncertainty of Andrew Jones coming back, Cremo would easily be the best guard. His 46% shooting from deep would be the greatest gift for a team who shot just 32% as a group last season.
Cons
Although the offense hasn’t been great for Shaka Smart since arriving at Texas, the havoc-style defense has remained elite. It requires guards, in particular, to be physical and aggressive all 90 feet. Cremo was solid as a defender at Albany, but it’s a big step up from the America East to the Big 12. If he struggles, will Smart sacrifice his defense for the sake of some more shooting?

The dream for any mid-major player transferring upward is to still be the focal point on a team while playing against better competition and eventually playing in the NCAA Tournament. Of all the teams available, Texas gives Cremo the best opportunity to do just that.
