ACC Basketball: Top 10 players heading into the 2018 NBA Draft
6. Gary Trent Jr., Duke
“He came, he saw, he conquered.” That was the motto for 6-foot-6 guard Gary Trent Jr. who spent one season at Duke University before entering his name in the 2018 NBA Draft. Trent started in all 37 games he appeared in as a freshman and shot 40.2 percent from 3-point land in 2017-18.
In his lone season with the Blue Devils, Trent put up 14.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He made 97 3=pointers in his freshman season, a new Duke record. He made at least one 3-pointer in all but two games in 2017-18.
Trent put up a career-high 30 points against the Miami Hurricanes back on Jan. 15. He was 9-for-14 from the floor (64.3 percent) and 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) from 3-point land in the game as Duke won 83-75.
Trent finished the season as the team’s third-leading scorer and led the team in 3-point shooting percentage. He’s one player who should be a quality shooting guard at the next level. His father, Gary Trent, played in the NBA for nine seasons.
