Nobody likes a fan who thinks that a team will dominate their conference immediately upon arrival. To most fans, a team must earn their respect whenever make a move into a new conference.

The Ambitious Newcomers, however, try to avoid wiping the slate clean by acting as if they are the best team in the conference from day one. New Mexico State fans will tell you all about the Grand Canyon complex, Wichita State was the AAC favorite in their first year, and Louisville has dealt with controversy from the moment they set foot in the ACC.

It is good to be optimistic and ambitious when your team enters new territory. However, gloating before you have earned it doesn’t look good to anyone.
