The Glory Moment Rewinds

Notable Fans: UMBC, Fort Wayne, VCU…

Let’s be honest, incredible upsets and tournament runs are part of the reason we all love college basketball. When small schools beat goliath programs, the moment will etch itself permanently in the history of the sport.

However, when teams utilize this moment as their only defining moment, it can eventually lead to pity more than respect. By ignoring the rest of their historical moments to utilize their one win on a national stage, these fans are not doing their program any justice.

Take for instance Fort Wayne, who most people will recognize by their back-to-back wins over Indiana, while failing to remember their 24 wins and first place Summit League finish in the previous season. I can only hope that people don’t remember the 2017-2018 UMBC Retrievers only for their win over Virginia, when their road to the America East Championship was just as exciting to watch.
