Expectations for 2018-2019

Smart is a legitimate contender for the Conference USA player of the year, especially on a North Texas team that has high expectations. Smart paired with Woolridge has the ability to get North Texas to the NCAA tournament. Head Coach Grant McCasland has given Smart the keys to the car and wants him to be just as aggressive as he was last year, which is when he is at his best.

Smart is no longer the new kid in town for opposing teams, so he’s going to get all types of defenses thrown at him. How the North Texas guard is able to dissect those initially will determine how successful he is going to be, at least early on in the season.

Smart is a heady player who always seems to know the situation.  He is also too good to not be able to score his points. The game and scoring appear to come easy to Smart. If he is able to maintain the production he had last year, North Texas is going to be in the Conference USA race all season long.

They are still probably not a tournament team, as the teams ahead of them are all more complete, but Smart is going to help lead North Texas to a top 4 finish in the league.
