Thomas Welsh, UCLA

Big man Thomas Welsh was another UCLA Bruin taken during the 2018 NBA Draft. He was selected 58th overall to the Denver Nuggets, a team that’s been shuffling players the past few seasons.

The Nuggets are currently shopping Kenneth Faried so it’s no surprise they took another big man in the NBA Draft. Welsh brings a different element to the table, particularly on the break, as a player who can attack the rim and shoot from the perimeter.

Welsh averaged 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds on 40.2 percent shooting from 3-point range in 2017-18. He averaged a double-double as a junior, the first time he did so all career, posting 19 double-doubles last season.

Welsh can bring the same dynamic to the Nuggets, a team in search of variety on offense. With Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, they have a young core to be successful. Let’s see if Welsh can play a role as well.
