14. Fordham Rams

2017-18 season record: 9-22 (4-14)

Last season was incredibly rough for the Rams. They were not only by far the worst offense in the A-10 but only a few in the entire country were more abysmal in both scoring and rebounding. And shooting under 30% from three-point range as a team is a recipe for disaster as well.

So is there hope for Fordham next season? They have some room for optimism in the frontcourt with 6’10 forward Prokop Slanina coming back. He’s the only double-digit returning scorer at 12.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Pairing him with rising sophomore Ivan Raut should make the team much more formidable on the boards.

The problem comes in the backcourt. Leading scorer Will Tavares and Perris Hicks have graduated, while the team’s all-around best player Joseph Chartouny left the team as a grad transfer for the Marquette Golden Eagles. His 4.6 apg and great defense will be sorely missed, with rising junior guard Cavit Havsa looking to take his place.

If the new eligible transfer guards Erten Gazi (DePaul) and Antwon Portley, who averaged 10.6 ppg at St. Peters two years ago can provide a boost on the perimeter, Fordham will at least be more competitive in the A-10 than they were a year ago. Standings-wise, it’s hard to see them avoid getting out of the basement.
