Robert Phinisee – Lafayette, IN

Guard | 6-foot-0 | 175 lbs | No. 134 overall

Point guard is arguably the biggest position of concern for Indiana heading into this season. The expected starter, Devonte Green, is more of a combo guard in play style and was also extremely inconsistent during his first two seasons on campus. This is why incoming recruit Robert Phinisee could play such an important role as a true freshman. Although he does not have tremendous size, Phinisee has a balanced game on both ends of the floor as a true point guard.

Even though Phinisee might not start right away, he could be the answer the IU’s point guard struggles. The Hoosiers do not need a star point guard to lead the way but simply someone who can consistently perform night in and night out. This might still be a lot to ask out of a true freshman but Phinisee brings all the right tools to the table.

After watching film on Phinisee, there is one thing that really stands out about his game and that is his pace. No matter the score or the situation, Phinisee seems to always be in control and he is able to often set the pace of games with his playmaking both in transition and in the fast break. If his team wants to slow down the game, he can do that. If his team wants to get out and run, he can manage that as well. He is extremely quick with the ball in his hands and understands where to make the right pass.

Despite being slightly undersized, Phinisee is a do-it-all point guard who could be the point guard of the future for the program. Regardless of this, though, IU fans might be hoping that he is also the point guard of the now.
