1. ACC

2017 Tournament Teams – (9) Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Miami, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Syracuse

The ACC put nine teams in the tournament last year and had Louisville not been on probation it would have been ten. They could even make an argument for Notre Dame to make it also. When 11 out of the 15 teams in your conference either made the tournament or had a very good argument, then you can lay claim to the best conference in the country.

Yes, Virginia had probably the most shocking upset in tournament history in the first round, but the rest of the conference fared pretty well. Duke and Florida State made it to the Elite 8 and Syracuse did Syracuse things by upsetting Michigan State in the second round. North Carolina did get upset by Texas A&M in the second round but they should again be good this year.

On paper, this conference is by the far the deepest in the country (if only they can forget about Pitt’s season last year). They will be tested as they have their annual challenge with the Big Ten early in the season, but they should be favored in most of those games.

Until someone can show the depth that the ACC has the past few years they will stay behind them.
