Duke Basketball: 3 takeaways from Blue Devils blowout win over Stetson
By Zach De Jong
The Blue Devil’s defense is for real!
The Blue Devil program under Krzyzewski has been known for playing aggressive defensive, but this trait has been lost in the past few years. This season however, the Blue Devils have committed to playing great on-ball defense the full length of the court, as well as, play the passing lanes on the wing aggressively.
The Blue Devils currently rank 5th in adjusted defensive efficiency according to kenpom. As people say, “defensive wins championships.”
Another good reason for this Blue Devil team to play great defense is because they are extremely dangerous in the open floor. Every game we see Zion Williamson or Barrett flying through the air for jaw-dropping dunks in transition.
Jones on-ball defense is the key for the Blue Devil’s defense moving forward.
The Stetson team was clearly outmatched by the Blue Devils, but this young Duke team can learn from every game. I’m sure Krzyzewski was pleased with his team’s performance Saturday night. He didn’t even have to throw his jacket in the second half as seen in the Indiana game.
The Blue Devils next game is versus Hartford on Wednesday, December 5. This game can be seen on ESPN 2 at 7:00 PM ET.
