NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Ole Miss climbs, North Carolina dips
21. Oklahoma Sooners
Record: 13-3 (2-2 Big 12)
Last Week: No. 23
Oklahoma already has two losses in conference play but let’s be real: Is there anything wrong with falling on the road to Kansas and Texas Tech, the two best teams in the Big 12? To put it simply, the answer is absolutely not. To this point in the year, the Sooners have clearly played one of the toughest schedules in the nation and they have an elite collection of wins to go along with the fact that they do not have a bad loss (the other was to Wisconsin).
With that said, I keep rethinking where I have the Sooners in these rankings because they could absolutely be higher. Their resume is clearly among the nation’s best due to their strong collection of wins but they do not quite have the “resume-defining” win that many other teams have. To put that in simpler terms, Oklahoma has won every game in which they are rated as the higher team on KenPom and has lost every game as the lower-rated team.
Due to this, Oklahoma has flown a bit under-the-radar so far this season as one of the top teams in the nation. With an elite defensive unit and an offensive superstar in Christian James leading the way, this is a team that everyone needs to take note of. Legit Big 12 contender.
