8) Celebrating Mike Daum

Last week, we celebrated Campbell’s Chris Clemons becoming the ninth player ever to reach 3,000 career points. South Dakota State’s Mike Daum became the 10th in Saturday’s win over South Dakota with a 25-point performance.

Daum has been well-known by hardcore college basketball fans for a few years now. He has averaged at least 23.9 points per game each of the last three years and is on pace to post career highs in points (25.8) and rebounds (11.8) this season.

But don’t think that Daum simply racks up numbers against lesser competition in the Summit League. The Jackrabbits have played in the NCAA Tournament every year Daum has been on campus, and he scored 27 points against Ohio State in last year’s dance.

South Dakota State is expected to make the tournament again (they’re in first in the conference), meaning fans will get at least one more chance to see Daum on the sport’s biggest stage.
