6. Michigan State Spartans

After dropping three games in a row earlier in the season, the Spartans have responded quite well with five straight wins. This streak has been headlined by monster road wins over Wisconsin and Michigan so it is easy to see why Michigan State has climbed up the rankings as of late. The Spartans are clearly in the top tier of the Big Ten and there is a legitimate argument for them to be one of the top title contenders in the country. I mean, nobody has more Q1 wins in the entire country. With three winnable games down the stretch of the season, MSU could win the Big Ten regular-season title even though Purdue (maybe even Michigan) might be right there as well.

5. North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina has won 10 of its last 11 games and the team is quickly putting the notion that they are “inconsistent” behind them. There might not be a single team in the nation playing better basketball right now and the Tar Heels definitely belong on the short list for title contenders. When on their game, as they have been of late, there are very few teams in the country who can slow down this offensive attack the Tar Heels have also held two of their last three opponents to less than 60 points. North Carolina now ranks in the top-10 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency.
