MAC Basketball: Buffalo leads a strong group of contenders in 2019 tournament
By Logan Butts
Players to Watch
CJ Massinburg – Buffalo – 18.5 Points, 6.4 rebounds
Massinburg does a little bit of everything for the Bulls. He leads the team in scoring and is second in rebounds, assists, and steals.
He’s also shooting 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from three, which is very efficient for a shooting guard that’s the top option for his team on offense.
Jaylin Walker – Kent State – 21.9 points, 5.5 rebounds
The MAC’s leading scorer, Walker has scored in double-figures in all but two games and dropped 20 or more points nine times on the year.
However, Waker’s status for the tournament is unknown after sitting out the regular season finale due to a violation of teen rules.
Larry Austin Jr. – Central Michigan – 17.0 points, 5.8 assists
Austin leads the MAC in assists and leads CMU in scoring, so the two-time transfer (previous stops were Xavier and Vanderbilt) will be producing a lot of offense for the Chippewas in the MACtion Tournament.
James Thompson IV – Eastern Michigan – 11.2 points, 11.0 rebounds
Thompson is one of the nation’s premier double-double machines with 19 on the season. One of only 17 players in the country averaging a double-double, he will be the key to an EMU run in the tournament.
