NCAA Basketball: 10 mid-major coaches poised for bigger jobs after 2019-20

2. Tim Cluess
The Iona Gaels have been a MAAC powerhouse under current head coach Tim Cluess. The Gaels are the annual representative from their conference. The fact that the head coach can bring in enough talent to reload every season speaks volumes on how good of a coach he is. When the St. John’s job opened earlier this offseason it appeared that Cluess may have his power five job.
The deal fell through and Cluess returned to New Rochelle to coach his Iona team. The Gaels are going to keep winning, keep making the NCAA tournament, and Cluess name is going to keep appearing in power five conversations.
1. Wes Miller
Over the past few seasons the Southern Conference has been one of the best mid major conferences in the sport. Wes Miller leads one of the best teams in that conference the UNC Greensboro Spartans. UNC-Greensboro made the NCAA tournament two seasons ago and took Gonzaga to the wire before falling in the final seconds.
This past season Miller led the Spartans to a 29-7 record and the Spartans were given an NIT bid. The Spartans finished in second behind the conference winner Wofford. Miller has yet to receive a ton of interest from bigger schools but if he continues to do big things for the Spartans that will take care of itself.
Now that Wofford has a new coach and superstar Fletcher Magee has graduated, the Southern Conference is Miller and Spartans for the taking. The 29 wins is the most wins in school history.
